EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION (DOMAIN KNOWLEDGE ETC)Applications Engineers – Quote Support to support RFQ development for industrial automation projects. The role focuses on translating customer requirements into complete, review-ready quotation packages, including concept development, proposal-level estimating, risk identification, and customer proposal documentation.

Key Responsibilities

RFQ Analysis & Requirements Clarification

  • Review customer RFQs, specifications, URS documents, and technical requirements.
  • Identify requirement gaps and prepare clarification questions and assumptions logs.
  • Document inclusions, exclusions, and assumptions for proposal development.

Automation Solution Concept Development

  • Develop proposal-level automation system concepts, including:
  • Robotic automation cells
  • Assembly automation systems
  • Material handling systems
  • Vision inspection solutions
  • Prepare concept summaries describing system approach, key modules, constraints, and differentiators.
  • Align solution concepts with customer requirements and automation feasibility.

Process & Sequence Development

  • Develop high-level sequence of operations or process narratives aligned with the proposed automation concept.
  • Define the workflow of stations, process steps, and automation logic for proposal purposes.

Proposal-Level Estimation

  • Develop proposal-level cost models, including:
  • Engineering labor estimates
  • Material and automation equipment allowances
  • Purchased / buyout components
  • Tooling requirements
  • Document Basis of Estimate (BOE) with key cost drivers and assumptions.
  • Prepare structured cost breakdowns using estimation templates.

Proposal Schedule Development

  • Develop proposal-level project schedules, including key milestones such as:
  • Concept and detailed design
  • Build and integration
  • Factory Acceptance Test (FAT)
  • Shipment
  • Installation
  • Site Acceptance Test (SAT)

Risk Identification

  • Identify technical and schedule risks during proposal development.
  • Prepare a proposal risk register with mitigation assumptions.

Proposal Documentation

  • Prepare customer-facing proposal documents using company templates, including:
  • Technical proposal documents
  • Compliance or specification response matrices
  • Proposal presentations
  • Ensure proposals are clear, structured, and customer-ready.

Internal Coordination

  • Coordinate with subject matter experts in mechanical, controls, robotics, and electrical engineering for concept validation and estimation inputs.
  • Participate in internal proposal review checkpoints and technical reviews.

Internal Handoff Documentation

  • Prepare internal handoff notes for delivery teams, including:
  • Scope summaries
  • Assumptions and constraints
  • Risk highlights
  • Estimate drivers and cost assumptions

Scope Boundaries (Important)

  • This role focuses on applications engineering support for quotation development only.
  • The following activities are explicitly excluded:
  • People management or team leadership responsibilities
  • Customer commercial negotiations or final pricing approvals
  • Ownership of project execution after contract award
  • On-site work at customer facilities unless specifically agreed

Experience

  • 5–10 years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Industrial automation applications engineering
  • Automation proposal engineering
  • RFQ quotation development
  • Automation concept design and estimating
  • Experience supporting automation solutions similar to those developed by companies such as
    Rockwell Automation, ABB, Siemens, or Bosch Rexroth is preferred.
