Design of Plastic Interiors for Coach
About our Client:
The client is one of the largest bus providers in Europe. Their core activity consists of development and manufacturing of a wide range of buses, coaches and chassis modules. With a manufacturing unit in Belgium and Netherlands, their products are sold across in more than 30 countries.

Scope / Challenge:
The client needed to change the complete look and feel of the front interior plastics, for the upcoming double decker coach variant. The task required the collaborative efforts from the customer end, offshore and onsite design team, styling studio and the supplier, to completely freeze and produce all the related plastic components, within the given time frame.
Solution:
The TAAL Tech team received the concept model, a partially available environment and plastic A surfaces, from which the actual CAD model was to be designed as inputs from the client. The project had stringent target deadlines in order to have adequate manufacturing lead time for the prototype, as well as actual built components. A tentative weekly CAD model delivery schedule was shared with the customer post receipt of the initial inputs. The priority of parts that will be submitted for proto build & mold preparation was also considered as a part of the schedule. The CAD models were delivered set wise to the customer, which in turn were sent to the supplier for checking and updati on, in case any enhancement was required.

Result:
By implementing suitable assembly sequence through design, reduced the Assembly time by ~ 14%. Manufacturing cost reduced by ~ 6% compared to other variants in the same Coach Category.
